Emily, I love how you are so eloquent! I think there are actually many people out there who are just as open-minded, but few who revel in the beauty of that open-mindedness as you do. Thank you for expressing what many of us may feel in our hearts, but haven't taken the time to say yet here on the Common Ground Dove. I hope that your words and being continue to inspire others positively.

Values: What is most important to you in life? What is your purpose? Who are you, really? What do you value?
Family and friends are the core of who I am. I am very family centered and feel that I find comfort in the company of loved ones. My purpose is to create positive energy in all those around me, especially younger children. I am a Early Childhood teacher at heart. I value childhood, innocence, creativity, and everyone's right to be happy.
Beliefs: What do you believe in? Do you believe in God(s)? Karma? Saints? Why or why not?
I believe that all religions have something to offer in helping us understand the world around us, the positive and negative things that occur in our lives, and in learning to live in harmony. I believe there is a higher being. I also believe that those we love stay with us, long after they pass. Their love and the positive energy they represent can help us through our daily challenges.
Do you consider yourself spiritual? Do you identify yourself with a religion? Why or why not?
Yes. I grew up Roman Catholic/Buddhist. I do not identify with any one organized religion. I feel that people have the tendency to take religion and interpret it in a way that restricts and excludes people rather than embraces everyone and their differences and unique backgrounds. I believe that everyone has the right to interpret religion and practice religion in their own way, without the judgment and restrictions and ritualistic behaviors that can sometimes get in the way.
Do you believe in after-life, heaven, reincarnation, a parallel universe, fate or destiny?
I believe that life doesn't just end. Our consciousness and our ability to love and relate and connect will continue on in one way or another. I believe it is something we may not be able to fully comprehend because our minds are limited by our human-ness.
Why are we here on this earth? What is the meaning of life? What are your lifelong aspirations?
I think we are here on Earth to make a positive change in someone else's life. We are here to learn our own strengths and weaknesses, to take on life's challenges and celebrations, and to grow in our knowledge of ourselves and others. Somewhere, someone will be affected by our choices and actions.
What questions do you have - for others, for a god, for yourself?
Who are you?
Background / Spiritual Path
Kindergarten teacher who feels life may not always be fair. That some children start out with more. And others start out surrounded by disadvantages and raw experiences that others have the luxury of avoiding. But regardless of these disparities, everyone can grow and reach their ultimate potential, given the right tools, confidence, and love.
Inspiration (People, Places, Things)
Everyone I meet inspires me in some little way. We have a lot to learn from one another.
