I've been attending the Francis & Islam class, where I heard about the "Family of Humankind" inter-faith event tomorrow, hosted by the Dialogue Project, at which they will explore texts, traditions, and experiences with racism, Islamophobia, and Anti-Semitism. Details from the website, thedialogueproject.org:
The Dialogue Project's interfaith events are held annually, bringing
together clergy leaders, regular "people in the pews," and many interested
others to dialogue. Each year we choose topics that promote
provocative, thoughtful and deep conversations.
2008 INTERFAITH TEACH-IN
The Dialogue Project’s 7th Annual Interfaith Teach In! will convene on Sunday, Nov. 16th at 1:30 PM at Plymouth Church of the Pilgrims in Brooklyn Heights. The event draws clergy and lay people from around the city who share food, talk and curiosity about each other’s faith, traditions and cultures. This year the topic is “The Family of Humankind – How our texts, histories and traditions understand Anti-Semitism, Islamophobia, and Racism.”
This year, we will have three keynote speakers from the Abrahamic faiths who will provide the context for this year subject: Imam Khaled Latif from the Islamic Center at NYU, Rev. David Fisher from Plymouth Church of the Pilgrims and Rabbi Justus Baird from the Center for Multi-Faith Education at Auburn Theological Seminary. Following the keynotes, there will be 9-12 clergy or teacher-led table dialogues that will enable participants to discuss the topic through the prism of a selection of short texts.
