I was in Quantum Leap restaurant the other day, and a couple walked in and sat at the next table. Both were wearing
turbans, because they are
Sikh. I exchanged cards with
SatKirin Kaur Khalsa, who produces music for meditation. At her request, I am posting the following forwarded Sikh events to protect French Sikhs' turbans:
>> Next weekend there is a series of events sponsored by the Sikh Coalition
>> (Sat, Sun, Mon at UN Church Center 12/13,14,15) to address the refusal of
>> the French government to accept the SIKH TURBAN as a necessary article of
>> faith.
>> This has been a disheartening battle for the French Sikhs who have the
>> history of
>> fighting in the French army...with their turbans...in WW I and WW II.
We lost our first French turban case at the European Court of human rights 2 weeks ago . This was announced to us last week. Two days ago the same court ruled against the hijab. Its gloves off or death of conscience for Sikhs in France and who knows where else. We have to support them.
UNITED SIKHS is hosting a UN event to mark the filing of the cases for French sikhs before the UN on 15th Dec 2008 , as part of a global Sikh civil rights conference from 13th -15th Dec 2008...See flier attached. Sikhs like you should be there...Will you be there? You need to attend and motivate youths and Sikh elders who will be at the conference, who need to stop the youths from repeating old mistakes. We want this to be an event where all generations of Sikhs intermingle during the 3 days to find solutions. We have to show the youths that the future is not orange but theirs.
